You’ve had some time to think about Scouting with your son and I hope you are excited about all the wonderful things coming up this year. In order to participate in these events, we must have a completed registration form from you. If you need one, you may contact me or your Den leader and they will make sure to get it back to me.
I know many of you have questions and I have been trying to reach out to chat with you all personally but I think I will break everything down for you in more detail via email.
We are Saddle Brook Cub Scout Pack 222. Your son is joining a Den which is part of the Pack. The Dens are broken down by grade (ranks).
· Lion – Kindergarten
· Tiger – 1st Grade
· Wolf – 2nd Grade
· Bear – 3rd Grade
· Webelos – 4th Grade
· Arrow of Light – 5th Grade
Your Den should meet about twice per month. Tigers will also participate in a “Go See It” trip organized by your Den Leaders as required for their advancement. Other Dens may choose to have an outing in lieu of their regular Den meeting as required for their advancement. Your Den Leaders will be contacting you regarding Den meeting times & locations which should also be posted on Scoutlander.
All Dens meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at our Pack meeting. During our Pack meetings, we recognize the achievements the boys have made with their Den, we may have a guest speaker, we may have a party or we may work on achievements together. Each meeting will have a theme geared toward the core value of the month.
Scoutlander. Each of you should have login information to access this system. (If you haven’t, call me ASAP) All Pack meetings & other events for the year are listed on this website. Den Leaders are encouraged to use this system as well to post Den meetings or outings. Please check Scoutlander for fliers, information & the calendar. Anything that you may have missed at a meeting will be posted here.
Paricipate with your Scout. We know that the more parents are involved with their Scout, the more he will get from the program. We encourage families to come to our Pack meetings and other family events throughout the year. This is your Scouts chance to show off his new skills. We ask one favor of you…during the meeting, it is important that siblings refrain from running around. We are guests in the school and we want to be sure we do not misuse their property. We WILL have FUN and we WILL be LOUD but we need to have some level of structure during the meeting.
Uniforms & Handbooks. Handbooks - Each Scout is required to have a handbook for his rank which should come with them to all Den meetings, Pack meetings & outings. As he completes a requirement, his Den Leader will be able to sign off the book & inform our Achievements Chairperson to ensure timely recognition.
Uniforms (Class A / Field Uniform) Our Pack only requests that you purchase the official blue Cub Scout shirt, neckerchief & slide for his rank, Pack numbers 222, fleur de lis, Den #, and the Northern NJ Council shoulder patch for our Tigers, Wolves & Bears. He may wear his own navy pants or dark blue jeans. For Webelos & Arrow of Light Scouts – you may continue to wear the blue shirt if it still fits or you may choose to start wearing the tan shirt & olive pants plus the Webelos colors for their shoulder. Of course the patches, neckerchiefs & slides listed above are still required. Rank hats are optional but certainly complete the uniform. The Northern NJ BSA Council in Oakland has everything you need to complete the uniform in their Scout Shop. Just tell them you are with Pack 222 and your sons rank and they will set you up with everything you need. They are located at 25 Ramapo Valley Rd in Oakland.
Uniforms (Class B) Class B uniforms are simply a t-shirt with our Pack logo. We had some available for you at our last Pack night. We are looking into new shirts with a fresh new design so we may wear these on camping trips, sporting events or other activity that doesn’t require the Class A uniform. Stay tuned!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or your Den Leader. I am looking forward to an exciting and fun packed year with Pack 222!
Yours in Scouting,
Tricia Regan
